ucpn needs your help!

With huge budget cuts looming, the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, Inc. is working feverishly to convince the Governor that these cuts will have a devastating effect on programs and services for children and adults with disabilities.  See the News 12 report about the efforts at ucpn to stop the budget cuts.

The Governor has proposed a 6% cut to Not For Profit agencies in the OPWDD system in his budget.

That is us!!

His proposal will require drastic measures for all of the organizations that serve individuals with developmental disabilities unless we are able to stop this initiative. Some voluntary agencies have already stated that they will be out of business in the near future if this proposal is not stopped. While we will figure out a way to sustain ourselves in the short term, make no mistake, this is a game changer.

We plan to stop the cuts by utilizing a united effort throughout the State and work has begun to accomplish this as I write this message. Some of the measures will include a public relations plan; a legal assessment of our alternatives; getting political allies to lead; and lastly a grassroots effort to mobilize our greatest assets, our participants, their families and you.

We are organizing the writing of letters, facilitating phone calls, assisting in the sending of emails and lastly organizing and making face to face meetings occur. We will include our State leadership as well as our representatives in Washington.

We need you and are counting on you to join us in these efforts. We have endured several years of no increases in reimbursement at the same time receiving 9% in cuts equaling 350 million dollars. These latest reductions are for an additional 240 million.

This is a major uphill battle that we are in and I cannot predict the outcome. We do represent thousands of people who have fought injustice before and we must make our voices heard NOW!!

The deadline for all the legislators to receive the letters, phone calls, emails is March 8th.

I am asking you to call, write, email or visit your representatives and support our efforts. A call or letter to Governor Cuomo would be appreciated as we believe he needs to be aware of the size of the constituency that supports individuals with disabilities and their families.

Thank you for all your past support and for joining with us to ensure people with disabilities are not further marginalized.
