Volunteer Opportunities May’08

As we “spring” ahead one hour on March 9, coincidentally the same day as our Polar Bear Swim in Oyster Bay, it’s almost easy to forget the cold, ice and snow this winter past, but it’s not so easy, nor would we want, to forget the overwhelming number of volunteers who so generously devoted many hours of time at the many winter fundraisers we recently had.  Your enthusiasm, flexibility and willingness to pitch in wherever you were needed at multiple events does not cease to amaze me!   How lucky and thankful we are to have such special people supporting ucpn.  Whether it’s volunteering at our center on a day-to day basis or at a specific fundraiser, your compassion and involvement is to be commended.

Our combined focus group/holiday party took place in January.  We welcomed new volunteers and realized that we have over 40 ongoing volunteers within our agency, with more than 350 volunteers throughout the year helping at various special events!

During the weekend of April 11 – 13, we’re trying something new – “Skate for ucpn at United Skates”.  See the discount coupon on the last page for further details.  Although we don’t need volunteers during that weekend (except on the skating rink), we could certainly use your help in distributing discount coupons before the event, and spreading the word.  If you and your families want to skate as well, the rink will be full of ucpn employees, volunteers, and supporters.

So please take a look at your calendars and our “Save The Date” calendar to mark those days ahead where volunteer opportunities arise.  Please call me at (516) 377-2062 and let me know if you’d like to volunteer for certain events.  You’re always welcome, you’re always needed and you’re always appreciated.
